The current collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the Hibernia Platform Employers’ Organization (HPEO) and Unifor, Local 2121 will expire on June 30, 2023. This means that 2023 will be a bargaining year for Hibernia. Throughout this process, the HPEO will be focused on bargaining terms and conditions of employment with the union that are in the best interest of employees, HPEO employers, and Unifor Local 2121. Our focus continues to be on the safety of all personnel on board, along with the sustainability of the platform. On March 16, 2023, the HPEO gave notice to bargain to Unifor Local 2121.

Who operates the Hibernia Platform?

The Hibernia platform is operated by Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC).

What is the Hibernia Platform Employers’ Organization (HPEO)?

The Hibernia Platform Employers’ Organization (HPEO) was formed by Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC) in accordance with the Labour Relations Act and is comprised of 13 employers on the Hibernia Platform. The HPEO is authorized to negotiate on behalf of the employers who employ employees on the Hibernia Platform, and to enter into and administer a collective agreement on their behalf.

When does the collective agreement expire? What does that mean for Hibernia?

Hibernia is currently on its 5th CBA between the HPEO and Unifor Local 2121. The current CBA expires on June 30, 2023. It is our desire to conclude negotiations prior to this date.

What does notice to bargain mean? When can the union or the HPEO give notice to bargain?

Per Article 44.1 of the CBA, either the union or the HPEO may give notice requiring the other party to begin collective bargaining with the view to renewing or revising the CBA. Notice to bargain can be issued by either party no less than 60 days before and not more than 120 days prior to the expiration of the CBA.
